The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Daniel Meyer conductor
Simone Porter violin
Dukas The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Bruch Scottish Fantasy
Franck Symphony in D
You may have first heard Dukas’ iconic masterpiece in the Disney film Fantasia, first released in 1940, but The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has been captivating audiences with its musical magic since 1897. With dancing broomsticks, boil and bubble, Goethe’s epic poem springs to life in this orchestral gem.
We are excited to welcome back an audience favorite, violinist Simone Porter, to the newly renovated Warner Theatre stage. She offers a musical tribute to Scotland in Bruch's Scottish Fantasy. Under the spell of novels by Sir Walter Scott, Bruch freely uses folk melodies and traditional rhythms to capture the joyous spirit of this beautiful land. We end with a work by famed Belgian organist and composer César Franck, whose surging Symphony in D revels in tones that could have been drawn from a tremendous cathedral organ.
Enjoy this full presentation of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as seen in the classic film Fantasia. Don’t miss your chance to experience this amazing piece performed live on February 26 in the newly renovated Warner Theatre!
Please note: this concert does not included projected images or video.
Look for our TV spot!
While we were looking forward to welcoming Cameron Carpenter to Erie to perform on the mighty Wurlitzer Theatre organ, we’ll have to wait a little longer while the organ installation is completed. Stay tuned for more details!
