What is it about the German-speaking world that fostered such a wealth of great music?  From J.S. Bach’s intricate counterpoint, to the flowering of classics by Mozart and Haydn, a Romantic generation with giants like Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann, Wagner and Brahms, and a turn-of-the-century intensification of musical expression through composers like Mahler, Strauss, Schoenberg, and Webern, this central European musical tradition flowered over two hundred years.  With works of charm, sophistication, and rich drama, we explore some of the most admired music to have even been performed on the world’s concert stages.

This concert will be made available online during the week following the broadcast. Please watch our social media accounts for more information.
