There is nothing more splendid than the sound of music! There is a story in every note and notes for every story. During each season, students participating in the Erie Philharmonic’s educational outreach programs will experience the richness of composers such as Beethoven and Mozart, along with many other composers, while developing their core academic skills and appreciation of classical music.
For over 60 years, the Philharmonic has had an important tradition of presenting innovative educational programs for local audiences, beginning in 1952 under the direction of Fritz Mahler.
Last year more than 4,000 school children and teachers attended our Youth Concerts in the Warner Theatre with hundreds more participating in the Philharmonic’s other educational outreach programs throughout the season surrounding our 10 symphonic concerts.
The annual Youth Concert supports educators in our community with high quality concert experiences, curriculum materials, pre and post-tests as well as interactive school visits. These concerts have been commended by Erie’s Public Schools as a model program in alignment with both Pennsylvania Arts Standards and Common Core.
Held each November, our Youth Concert is a 45-minute program presented in the historic Warner Theatre in downtown Erie. The concert is open to school groups and home schools throughout the NWPA region.
Through the support of generous sponsors and donors, the Philharmonic is able to offer Youth Concert tickets at $2 per person. Additionally, all transportation and ticketing costs for Erie’s Public Schools are covered by the generous support of the Erie Philharmonic Board of Governors and the Partnership for Erie’s Public Schools (PEPS).
