Ensembles
Auditions are typically held in the fall for students to be placed in an ensemble that best fits their ability-level. We currently plan on hosting auditions in the Fall of 2021. We can’t wait to be back working with our incredible ensembles and coaches!
Symphony Orchestra
Tuesdays • 6:30-9:00pm
Comprised of the most advanced and experienced student musicians in the Northwest Pennsylvania, Northeast Ohio, and Western New York regions, the Symphony Orchestra is the premier ensemble of the Junior Philharmonic. They perform challenging orchestra repertoire in 3-5 performances each season.
Chamber Orchestra
Tuesdays • 6:45-8:45 PM
Preparing young musicians with the skills needed to join the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra intensively trains players in the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections as distinct ensembles that are then joined together as a complete orchestra. The full orchestra performs twice a year with additional performances of each ensemble. Each section has its own coach, and Carolyn Borland conducts the full orchestra.
String Academy
Intermezzo Strings
Tuesdays • To Be Determined
The stepping stone to the Chamber Orchestra! Proficiency and technical abilities are refined through this small string ensemble that requires a minimum of 2-4 years of playing experience. Jonathan R. Moser, Artistic Director for the Erie Junior Philharmonic, oversees various coaches.
Overture Strings
Tuesdays • 5:15-6:30 PM
Our second level ensemble is for novice students with 1-3 years of experience. Through focusing on beginning repertoire, students are able to further learn rehearsal technique, ensemble and performance skills. Jennifer Jansen, Erie Philharmonic violinist, coaches and conducts the ensemble.
Prelude Strings
Tuesdays • 5:15-6:15 PM
No experience required! This teaching group provides new students that are just starting to become inspired on their violin, viola, cello or bass! Students learn basic playing technique, music theory and ensemble skills. This ensemble performs twice per season.
